How to Style Pants

Pants serve as an easy gateway between different style genres and closet staples alike. For an approachable way to wear fitted pants with some added volume up top, pair the Marlo top.

Wide leg pants may seem intimidating for shorter heights and pear shapes, but if you find one with flattering styling it will make your legs appear longer and slimmer. Tuck them in and finish off the look with either heels or flats!

1. Pair them with a tee

When it comes to styling pants, there are various silhouettes from which you can select. As the silhouette can either complement or contrast with your tops, it is important to carefully consider what works with each silhouette when selecting a look. Sarai and Haley share helpful advice on pairing different kinds of trousers with appropriate tops in this week’s video for an effective yet stylish ensemble.

When wearing tapered pants like the Orlando trousers, emphasize their straight lines by pairing them with something fitted on top, such as our Quince day robe. This will create an elegant and polished look that works equally well whether worn with sneakers or heels/lug-soled boots.

2. Wear them with a jacket

High-waisted trousers used to be an unmistakable sign that someone was either: A. 90 years old or B. Simon Cowell. However, today they can be worn as one way ticket to sartorial bliss when styled properly – they are often seen at Pitti Uomo and other menswear events paired with brogues, Derbies or double monks or held down with sturdy twill chinos for an effortlessly sophisticated look.

If you want to elevate this look, pair your high-waisted pants with a bold-colored or oversized blazer in order to create an eye-catching ensemble that is far from stuffy or traditional. Choose sneakers or lug-soled boots as footwear options for an effortlessly cool vibe.

3. Wear them with a belt

If your pants don’t already feature belt loops or you want to elevate them a bit further, add a belt for an added tailored touch. This works especially well if they are more formal and structured like suits; or with interesting textures like corduroy. Choose one with a unique buckle design to complete the look and coordinate well with any color palette in your ensemble.

A strategically placed belt can cinch in your waist and create a natural hourglass figure. To achieve this effect, place the belt at the narrowest part of your torso; or add color and fun with different belt colors – for example a bright pink belt might pair nicely with black jeans and fitted blazer.

Gender norms provide guidelines, but should never dictate your clothing choices. Many women are wearing belts once considered masculine and oversized while men have begun exploring intricate belt designs with feminine details which were once seen as masculine.

When it comes to styling pants, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer; rather it depends on your personal style and desired message. Expert opinions should always be considered when making decisions regarding pants style.

4. Wear them with suspenders

Suspenders are an indispensable accessory, perfect for formal events and everyday casual wear alike. From suits and formal gowns, to jeans and shorts for everyday wear – suspenders come in various widths and colors to suit all your looks perfectly! However, you should keep in mind that suspenders draw attention to the upper body, so pairing it with other accessories such as bow ties or pocket squares to ensure a polished and coordinated appearance is key for maintaining their appeal.

When wearing suspenders, it’s essential that they fit comfortably – neither too tight nor loose – in order to provide maximum support and ensure maximum comfort. Furthermore, long suspenders may create an unfinished and messy appearance.

Finally, when selecting whether clips or buttons will best attach suspenders to your trousers, it is essential that you consider both the fabric and style of your outfit when making this decision. For instance, denim pants or chinos require button-on suspenders as they will less likely damage their fabric; conversely, formal outfits such as suits require clip-on suspenders as they will blend more naturally with them without clashing with it.

Once you have determined how to pair your suspenders with an outfit, it is essential that you practice before heading out into public. Doing this with friends or a mirror will allow you to get used to how the suspenders fit and look on you; once mastered you will know that they can add class and sophistication to any outfit!
