Tom Ford, previously creative designer for Gucci and YSL, was quoted at London Fashion Week saying “London is one of the few cities where people still dress properly and fashion exists. Every day I see women who’ve thought about their outfits. They’ve picked out the bag, put on proper shoes.”

With LFW over and the party season about to arrive it’s time we looked into what’s hot this winter – let’s not let Tom down and let’s look fabulous this Christmas.

Winter 2013 is all about the base colours and bold patterns – think floral, checks, tartans and stripes – whilst focusing on pinks, blacks and nudes. This year London Fashion Week saw the return of statement waists, pretty party dresses, lace and that much needed Christmas sparkle. Follow our guide to looking fantastic this season.

Colours

The colour for this season is pink. From almost nude to Barbie’s lipstick, if it’s pink it’s a thumbs up! Team pinks and blacks for a statement look.

Patterns

Patterns are back! With dark floral prints making a comeback this winter it’s time to dig out that black eyeliner and go gothic. If floral isn’t your thing, don’t worry – lines have made a comeback this season too. With tartan, check and stripes all making an appearance on the catwalk you can be confident with these straight talking looks.

Materials

Metallics and high shine materials are hot right now, team a high shine skirt with a plain tee for a smart, casual, statement look. Lace or ‘cobweb’ material has also made an appearance on the catwalk this winter – a pink, lace dress ticks all of our boxes!

Designs

Statement waists are a big yes this season. Whether it be a belt around the waist, a clinched waist, high waist or even an exposed waist – make it a statement waist this Christmas! Oversized jumpers and coats are also in this winter – perfect to hide that extra helping of Christmas pud!

Accessories

The season’s new offerings for accessories boasted a few unexpected bold new looks along with traditional favourites.

Shoes

With winter fast approaching boots made a big come back this autumn, whether it’s colourful wedge boots, ankle, knee high or over the knee in boots you’ll be a step ahead. The trainer-heels are also big this season – the comfort of trainers combined with the class of heels, what more could we want? LFW 2013 also saw the return of the American tourist favourite, socks and flat sandals – team brightly coloured sandals with white socks for a brave and bold look.

Bags

An envelope clutch is the perfect party season accessory, whilst satchels and doctor bags add a professional touch to everyday life. Shoppers have returned this season but this time with accessories, a studded shopper will make for the perfect Christmas shopping companion and, as practical as always, your shopper could double up as an overnight bag for visiting the family this year.
